What is included in the senior course?

Blood tests in older animals are routinely used to identify, for example, impaired kidney or liver function, anemia, inflammatory changes or hormonal abnormalities.

Common age-related diseases in dogs

From around the age of seven, the risk of chronic diseases in dogs increases, such as kidney and heart disease, osteoarthritis, hormonal disorders, diabetes, tumors and dental disease. Many of these can be detected early through clinical examination and blood tests, before clear symptoms occur.

Common age-related diseases in cats

From around the age of eight, cats are at increased risk for chronic diseases, such as chronic kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, osteoarthritis, heart disease and dental disease. Many of these conditions develop gradually and can be detected early through clinical examination and blood tests, even before obvious symptoms are noticed.

Why perform senior checks at home?

Older animals can be negatively affected by stress. Transport, waiting rooms and new environments can cause altered values, stress levels and altered blood values.

Safety at home

Senior animals often have lower stress tolerance and can be more affected by transport and the clinic environment. Examination at home reduces the burden and makes the care situation calmer and more gentle.

Better observation

Pain, stiffness and behavioral changes are often more noticeable in a home environment where the animal moves naturally. This provides better conditions for detecting early signs of, for example, osteoarthritis or cognitive changes.

More reliable values

Stress affects both behavior and physiological parameters such as pulse, respiratory rate and sometimes even certain laboratory values. In a home environment, the animal is examined in its safe environment, which provides a more representative clinical assessment.

Senior check - questions & answers

Is senior check-up needed even if my animal seems healthy?

Many age-related diseases develop slowly without obvious symptoms. Timely testing allows for early treatment, which can help preserve quality of life for longer.

Blood tests can provide information about kidney and liver function, blood sugar, blood status, electrolyte balance, and signs of inflammation or hormonal abnormalities. It is an important tool for identifying early disease changes in older animals.

Annual check-ups are generally recommended for senior dogs and cats. In cases of already known diseases or abnormalities, more frequent follow-up may be necessary.

Yes. Home blood sampling is an established and safe method and is performed according to the same medical standards as in a clinic visit.

We review the results together and recommend further investigation, treatment or follow-up if necessary. The goal is to create a clear and individualized plan for continued care.

A preventive senior checkup is one of the most important investments you can make for your dog or cat's long-term health.

Early checks and testing make it possible to detect changes in time and take the right measures before the disease affects quality of life.
