Before neutering, it is important that your animal is healthy and is considered able to undergo anesthesia safely.
If your animal is older than 6 years, has a chronic illness, has previously reacted negatively to anesthesia or if you are unsure about your animal's health status, we recommend a veterinary examination before anesthesia.
If we assess that such an investigation is necessary, we will do so. free of charge for castration (regular price 980 SEK). Any sampling or further examinations that are deemed necessary will be charged at the regular price. See our price list here.

The veterinarian always makes an individual assessment of your animal before anesthesia. If further examinations or measures are deemed necessary, we will inform you in advance and review any costs before you decide how you want to proceed.
There is no one right age for everyone. The appropriate time depends on the animal's species, sex, breed, size, health and reason for neutering, among other things. For dogs, especially larger breeds, the time may need to be assessed individually as sex hormones affect growth and skeletal development.
Neutering prevents unwanted reproduction and eliminates the risk of diseases in the organs that are removed, such as uterine inflammation in bitches and testicular tumors in male dogs. It can also reduce certain hormonally controlled behaviors, but the effect on behavior varies between individuals.
Castration is a common surgical procedure, but all anesthesia and surgery involve a certain risk. In addition, after castration, metabolism changes and energy requirements may decrease, which increases the risk of weight gain if the amount of food is not adjusted. Other long-term effects vary with factors such as gender, breed and age.
The animal is examined before the operation and put under anesthesia. In male animals, the testicles are removed. In female animals, the ovaries are usually removed, sometimes together with the uterus, depending on the method and medical circumstances. The animal is given pain relief during the procedure.
Most animals are significantly more alert within one to two days, but the surgical wound needs longer to heal. It is usually recommended to reduce activity and not let the animal lick the wound for about 10–14 days. You will receive individual instructions from the veterinarian.
