Gastrointestinal complaints are common but sometimes complex, where the right investigation is often crucial. At our gastroenterology clinic at Djurkliniken Östermalm, we offer everything from thorough medical investigations to advanced diagnostics to ensure that your animal receives the right treatment and the best possible quality of life.
Does your pet vomit occasionally or does your pet have loose stools at regular intervals? Perhaps periods of poor appetite and abdominal pain? These symptoms can be due to many different causes. At the gastroenterology clinic, we want to create a comprehensive picture of your pet's symptoms and well-being.
When investigating chronic gastrointestinal problems, blood and stool samples are often taken. In many cases, strict feeding trials with medical feeds are performed and supportive treatment is given.
We will gradually evaluate how your animal is doing and create a further plan for your animal depending on symptoms and disease status.
The investigation begins with a clinic visit where we review your animal's medical history, symptom development, previous treatments and any dietary attempts. Feeding history is often an important part of the assessment.
Ultrasound is in many cases a central part of the gastro-intestinal examination. The examination allows us to assess the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas and lymph nodes as well as the structure of the gastrointestinal tract.
In many cases, we take blood tests to rule out underlying diseases that can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, such as liver damage, hormonal disorders or inflammation. Test results are always followed up by the responsible veterinarian.
Stool analysis can provide important information in cases such as chronic diarrhea or weight loss, where we need to assess nutritional intake and rule out infectious causes.
Together we will create a clear and well-thought-out investigation plan. We explain which examinations are relevant, why they are needed, and adapt the plan to both medical needs and what suits you and your animal.
In chronic gastrointestinal problems, blood tests and stool samples are often needed to rule out underlying diseases. In many cases, strict feeding trials with medical diet food and supportive treatment are also carried out. We continuously follow up and adjust the plan based on how your animal responds to the treatment.
If symptoms persist or if we suspect a more complex disease, we can proceed with ultrasound and tissue samples (biopsies) to confirm the diagnosis. With many years of experience in gastrointestinal examinations, we work methodically and evidence-based to give your animal the best possible conditions for improved quality of life.
Because stomach and intestinal problems can vary in complexity – from simple investigations with blood and stool tests to advanced imaging diagnostics, we always provide a clear cost estimate after the initial examination.
If the symptoms are recurring, do not go away within a few days, or affect the general condition of your pet, you should have them examined. Early investigation increases the chance of finding the cause and initiating the correct treatment in a timely manner.
Our veterinarians have a strong interest in gastrointestinal medicine and extensive experience in investigating both acute and chronic gastrointestinal problems in dogs and cats. We ensure that you receive a clear overview of diagnosis, treatment options and a concrete, individualized care plan.
We know that gastrointestinal problems can make animals both tired and sensitive. That's why we work at a leisurely pace and adapt the examination to your animal's well-being, so that the visit is as safe and stress-free as possible.
Regardless of whether you have previously met with us at home or at the clinic, we have a full overview of your animal's history when you visit our gastroenterology clinic. Through a shared medical record system, we create a common thread in the investigation that saves time and increases safety for both you and your animal.
VetAtHome offers both clinic visits, home visits and visits to our veterinary practices – what is best depends on your animal's needs and what feels most convenient for you. We work with all insurance companies, making it easy to get help regardless of your insurance coverage.
