Deworming

Routine deworming is only done when the kitten or puppy is small. Adult animals should only be dewormed if a parasite burden has been determined or if the presence of worms is observed to reduce the risk of resistance of the parasites. Symptoms of worms can manifest as vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss, but also coughing in the case of respiratory parasites. If you suspect worms, stool samples can provide answers to what type of parasite the animal is carrying, as they are treated with different medications and intervals.

The symptoms that occur with a parasite burden can of course be the result of other diseases. If you suspect that your animal has worms, you can make an appointment with one of our veterinarians for help. ‍

In connection with travel

When traveling abroad, there are special rules and requirements for deworming. To prevent the spread of the fox tapeworm, deworming is a requirement before traveling to certain countries. As an animal owner, you are responsible for checking what applies to the specific country you are traveling to. You can find the information on the Swedish Board of Agriculture's website, or you can contact the embassy of each country before your trip. ‍Book an appointment with us for deworming before traveling, including a certificate.
